Bumi Kecil is Hiring a Principal
Bumi Kecil is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Principal to support our Reggio Emilia-inspired early childhood education program. Our mission is to inspire lifelong learning through nurturing curiosity in play, nature, and the community. We pride ourselves on providing a nurturing, inclusive, and stimulating environment for our students while maintaining a strong connection with the local community.
Bumi Kecil currently has 16 students ages 3-6 from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. The current maximum capacity is 24 students across two classes with 2 teachers in each classroom. Teachers teach in both English and Bahasa Indonesia, creating individual child centered learning plans for each student based on the student interests and monthly themes.
In July 2025 we aim to build two new classrooms for an additional 24 students and 4 teachers, bringing the total number of people under the supervision of the Principal in 2024/2025 to 48 students (4 classrooms) 8 teachers, 1 cleaner, 1 gardener and 1 international training and development consultant supporting the team remotely.

Extensive experience in early childhood education, demonstrating expertise in creating nurturing and developmentally appropriate learning environments for young learners, and a deep understanding of best practices in the early years sector.
Is eager to learn more about the Reggio Emilia approach, with a passion for innovative educational methodologies.
Strong leadership abilities, with a proven track record of inspiring and managing teams, driving educational initiatives, and cultivating a positive and inclusive school culture.
Bilingual communication skills in both Bahasa Indonesia and English, with the capability to effectively engage and collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
A deep awareness of the educational landscape in Indonesia, including current trends, challenges, and opportunities, with the ability to navigate and adapt to the evolving climate of the education sector.
Established relationships with key government officials, preferably including connections with the Ministry of Education and Lombok officials, and experience in navigating early years licensing requirements and fostering government and community collaboration.
Is creative and takes initiative, bringing fresh ideas and proactive solutions to the school environment.
Is patient, flexible, and capable of multitasking, adept at managing the dynamic needs of a diverse school community.
Possesses strong problem-solving skills and decision-making abilities, especially in times of uncertainty and change.
Has experience in International Schools, particularly those with students from European backgrounds, with a deep understanding of diverse cultural contexts.
Exhibits excellent communication skills, effectively interacting with students, families, and staff to foster a positive and supportive community.
Timeline
Start date: Term 2 - October 14th, 2024 (earlier start dates are possible)
3-month trial period: ends January 14th
1.5 year contract: Until July 4, 2026
Responsibilities
Daily Operations Management - 20%
Oversee the day-to-day operations of Bumi Kecil, ensuring a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for students and staff.
Support teachers by understanding the daily schedule and stepping in to support as requested.
Ensure the smooth arrival and departure of students by welcoming families and students, and implementing a consistent dismissal procedure.
Ensure that there is someone responsible to open and close the school buildings daily and ensure the safety and security of all resources.
Remain on call for teachers during school hours in the case that there is an incident requiring immediate attention.
Manage shared resources such as office and cleaning supplies, maintaining plenty of back stock of commonly used items.
Administrative Management - 20%
Support and manage administrative tasks related to student enrollment, record keeping (up to date signed forms, emergency contacts, and rosters), school policies and procedures, and communication with families
Attend or co-lead staff meetings to ensure teachers are informed and prepared for daily, weekly, and monthly activities, keeping notes to ensure that all topics are covered and next steps are assigned.
Complete and manage the day to day petty cash as well as the monthly, term and yearly budgets, periodically submitting reports to the Board of Directors each month for review.
Allocate resources to efficiently to support the operations of the school, including budgeting, procurement, and facilities management
Work closely with the administrative team to ensure compliance with local regulations and licensing standards.
Staff, Student, and Family Support - 20%
Support teachers with emergent questions and needs, address any immediate concerns that come up throughout the day.
Support teachers and students in conflict resolution when an issue can’t be solved within the classroom and needs additional support.
Manage staff and family grievances promptly, ensuring fair and effective resolution. Conduct investigations when necessary and implement corrective actions.
Support students with any medical issues or ailments, following first aid and emergency protocols and following up with families as appropriate.
Serve as a substitute teacher when there are planned or unforeseen absences.
Coordinate building and grounds maintenance by supervising the garden and cleaning staff, following up to ensure that tasks are completed in a timely manner while meeting a high standard of expectations.
Ensure all staff records and qualifications are up to date and maintain a high standard of Professional Development training is provided in collaboration with the Education Consultant.
Foster a collaborative and positive work environment.
Collaboration with the Board and Licensing Support - 20%
Work closely with the Board of Directors and consultants to ensure Bumi Kecil activities align with the school’s vision and long term goals.
Implement Board-approved initiatives and contribute to strategic planning.
Support the licensing process for our kindergarten and future primary school by collaborating with consultants, meeting with education officials, and helping to gather and review all required paperwork.
Community Engagement - 20%
Develop partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and community members to enhance the learning experiences of students.
Support teachers in planning events and initiatives that align with Bumi Kecil's values and goals of giving back to the community of Gili Air.
Maintain and enhance Bumi Kecil's reputation by fostering strong relationships with the Ministry of Education, Lombok official and wider school community.
Organize and participate in community events and initiatives that support Bumi Kecil’s mission
Conduct school tours for prospective parents/families, showcasing the school, programs, and answering questions.
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field and/or a minimum of 5 years experience in management and early childhood education.
Fluent in both written and spoken Bahasa Indonesia and English.
Existing relations with the wider education community of Indonesia (Lombok, NTB preferred)
Strong organizational and administrative skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to build and inspire a strong team
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups, including staff, families, and the local community.
Cultural sensitivity and adaptability, with an understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities of working in an international setting.
What We Can Offer
A monthly salary between IDR 10,000,000 and IDR 15,000,00 based on education and experience
THR
Reimbursement for relocation costs up to IDR 1,000,000 after a contract is signed and the trial period has been passed.
Up to 20 paid holidays during term holidays, include compensation for working on red calendar days (public holidays)
BPJS Health and BPJS Ketenagakerja will be split between employee and employer according to the law
