Some of your duties will include:

Responsible to provides assistance and occasional overall supervision of the coal plant and diesel generating facility operating personnel during assigned work periods to assure the safe, reliable, efficient, and profitable operation of the facility and coordination of facility output with the requirements of the electric power hosts

Performs Lead Hand duties in the Diesel Plant Control Room and Coal Plant Control Room as required.

Maintain a motivated and productive staff by assisting in performance management and employee development and training.

Assist with conducting weekly meetings to cover facility operations, safety and work rules. Often directs or leads meetings personally.

Maintains a high level of equipment availability by endeavoring to improve equipment reliability, operating procedures, and performing required equipment tests and preventive maintenance.

Develops a strong sense of teamwork within groups and with other facility groups.

Conducts operations to comply with all safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.

Keeps the Power Plant leader team informed of facility operating status and equipment problems.

Maintains accurate records and submits all required reports in a timely manner (weekly, monthly and ad hoc production, fuel, KPI reports).

Plays a key role in maximizing facility profitability by developing a highly productive staff that is keenly cost conscious.

Maintains good communications with internal and external customers to ensure equipment is safely removed from service for repairs with minimum impact to the operating schedule

Act as leader for any assigned shutdown jobs

Review operational parameter data to keep the plant running efficient, within optimum operating regime and less costly

Work with power generation optimization software to achieve best practice operational

Build strong expertise in own field, clearly understand own and team objectives/goal, and deliver consistent high performance.

Ask for support and coaching and mentoring to supervisor for the development of workplace knowledge, skills and attitudes

Maintain close communication with supervisor and peer.

Respond to instructions or enquiries promptly and in accordance with organizational requirements.

Communicate progress of task to supervisor or colleagues as required.

What skills and experience do you need?

Minimum Diploma Degree in related field with 5 years of related experience in Power Plant Operations

Detailed knowledge of the layout start up and operation of power plant equipment and units.

Meets all requirements as stated in EDQP for the Operation’s hierarchy or has other equivalent demonstrated qualifications under another program.

Demonstrated management skills that include planning, directing, organizing, decision making, oral and written communications, and employee development and performance management.

Capable of walking/working on grating surfaces at extreme heights, wearing all personal protective equipment and working in confined spaces. No physical limitations which prohibit walking, bending, stooping, kneeling or climbing.

Maintains a valid driver’s license or has the ability to obtain a license.

Ability to develop a strong sense of teamwork within group and with other facility groups.

Desire to participate in all areas of facility O&M.

Strong interpersonal skills; good analytical; conflict resolution. 

Excellent communication skills in English both verbal and written and computer literate; Strong computer skills and be competent in all Microsoft Office software programs, as well as project-specific software and all business and maintenance-related software functions;

Able to work on-site with regular working hour schedule (no roster).
